Fox captured one evening, looking like he was choosing which Dandelion head to blow on.
Vixen on an evening walk, nose low to the grass, pausing at a cluster of dandelion clocks. The light softens to amber; the sky is a slow, cooling blue. Each puffball trembles with a promise — a thousand tiny parachutes waiting for the smallest disturbance. She inhales the green, slightly sweet scent of late spring, attentive to the hush between one breath and the next.
A breeze teases the meadow; seeds begin their slow unravelling. The hairs along her spine lift; her whiskers tick the air. With a gentle exhale, a single seed lifts and rides the current, a brief, bright dot against the fading sky. More follow, a soft, drifting scatter that paints invisible paths through the evening.
She watches each seed go, not with sadness but with a quiet, careful wonder — aware of beginnings carried on invisible currents. The walk continues, slow and deliberate, footsteps muted in the grass, while the meadow keeps shedding its light into the air, and the world grows just a little bit fuller with unseen journeys.

Lovely Roe deer buck swimming across a pond in Wiltshire, on his way to investigate the other side
A roe deer appears at the near bank—neck high, ears alert—hesitating on the braided edge where moss gives way to shallow current. It steps in, hooves parting cool water that beads along its flanks. Muscles ripple beneath a sleek summer coat; every movement is careful, economical, practiced. The current tugs at its legs but not enough to deter the crossing. It swims with a steady, almost buoyant stride, the head held level, nostrils and eyes clear above the surface. Ripples fan out behind, expanding into the dappled reflections of sky and leaf. Occasional splashes mark the rhythm of its exertion; water runs in dark rivulets from its chin. This photograph invites you to pause and feel a tranquil calm moment.

Classic image of a Kingfisher in all his glory, resting during a rain shower. Take at Blashford Lakes reserve, Hampshire. Owner and run by Hampshire wildlife trust.
Kingfisher, feathers slick with rain, perches on a low, dark branch, every plume pressed close and glossy. Waterdrops bead and run along iridescent blues and oranges, bright and almost jewel-like against the flat light of the sky. His compact body hunches, wings folded tight, tail fanned slightly for balance on the soaked wood. Tiny concentric ripples spread where the shower patters the water, echoing his stillness and the quiet on the bank. His head tilts; a sharp black eye watches for a minnow beneath the shaken surface with patient intensity. Each breath lifts the chest slowly, measured and calm. Droplets trace his long, dagger-like bill, sculpting a streamlined, purposeful silhouette that seems made for speed. Around him, earth and stems smell of fresh rain; the river lies like a mirror, broken only by the darting of insects and the occasional flicker of current. For a suspended moment predator and prey share a hush—rain acting as both curtain and spotlight—isolating the kingfisher in a single, motionless grace. Then he launches: a single decisive arrow of colour—wings flashing, bill thrust forward—cleaving the rain into bright beads as he disappears toward the water, leaving the branch to drip in his wake.

Silhouette single bull pictured on the horizon line at sunset. Stunning simple composition. Taken at sunset enhancing the extremes of colour at that time of night. Taken on Salisbury plain, Wiltshire.
Lone bull on the horizon, silhouetted against a wide, bruised sky. The sunset spills molten gold and deep rose across the lower clouds while heavy, charcoal storm banks gather above, their undersides stained indigo. The landscape is sparse folding into shadow as the land slopes away. The bull stands motionless, head down, a solitary monument between earth and sky.
The scene holds a quiet tension: warmth from the sun’s dying colours contrasted with the cool threat of coming weather. Textures are stark—the silhouette of the bull, the feathered edges of cloud. The colour palette moves from warm ochres and rose into slate and indigo, with a thin rim of bright gold where the sun still lingers. Compositionally, the horizon sits low, giving the sky its dominant, theatrical role while the bull anchors the frame as a single, decisive subject.
Mood: contemplative and slightly ominous, a study in solitude and scale. The image reads like a moment suspended—an animal and a day both at brink—inviting viewers to hold the silence and imagine the first drop of rain.

Roe deer buck captured behind young cow parsley plants just before sunset. Local produce show overall photography winner.
A lone roe deer stands at the ridge, ears alert and illuminated against the sinking sun. The sky is a wash of honeyed gold and bruised lavender; light spills across the meadow in thin, trembling ribbons. The deer’s coat, a warm mahogany dusted with silver, seems to drink the last of the day’s colour. Its breath puffs small ghosts into the cooling air.
Around it, grasses bow and whisper. A distant copse casts long, soft shadows that fray into the fields like ink into water. The deer turns its head slowly, nostrils flaring as it reads the evening—scent of earth, the faint tang of the last of the day, the hush radiating from trees. Time seems to slow; each muscle poised for a decision that never needs to be made. The stillness presses gentle and complete.

Kingfisher in black and white sitting on top of his favourite perch. Photographed during a rain shower. Taken at Blashford Lakes, Hampshire.
Kingfisher poised on a branch, feathers ruffled against the pulse of rain. The bird’s compact silhouette—sharp bill, squat body—cuts a crisp, obsidian shape against a wash of mid-Gray background. Rain threads across the frame like a thousand fine white lines, slanting diagonally, each drop a stark streak that emphasizes motion even as the kingfisher remains motionless.
High-contrast black and white renders the iridescence as varying densities of dark tones, eye a punched hole of absolute black. Water beads on the bird’s plumage, catching highlights that read as tiny, precise points of light. The branch, slick weathered, anchors the composition with a vertical weight.
Negative space amplifies the solitude; the blurred background dissolves into a soft, luminous fog, making the rain and the bird the only tactile things in the frame. The overall effect is quiet and intense—an arrested moment of survival, a study in texture and tone where every drop and feather is defined by contrast rather than colour.
