Seaweed Trees. Tenby, Wales.
Magical reflection of a tiny piece of seaweed growing from a stone on the middle of Tenby south beach.
Backlit miniature seaweed stem glowing on the beach, its delicate fronds translucent and rimmed in warm light. A low sun (or a bright evening sky) catches each tiny serration, turning the pale brown to molten amber and the edges to a luminous halo. Fine beads of seawater cling to the stem and refract the light, creating a scatter of miniature highlights along its surface. The wet sand beneath reflects a soft, elongated sheen — a mirror strip that echoes the stem’s glow and adds a cool contrast to the warm rim light.
Composed low and close: positioning the camera almost level with the sand so the stem rises up, isolating the subject and emphasizing scale. Use a narrow depth of field to render the background into a creamy bokeh while keeping the seaweed’s textural detail — from the fibrous midrib to the tiny bubbles of water — crisply in focus. Expose for the highlights to preserve the radiance along the edges.
