Boats At Rest In The Fog. Tenby, Wales.

from £75.00

Foggy harbour scene with the boats taking a rest before the next tide. Taken in Tenby, Wales late one evening when the fog rolled in.

A pale wash of fog hangs over Tenby Harbour, swallowing the familiar angles of boats and harbour walls until they become soft silhouettes. Low tide has left the channel a ribbon of dark water threading between mudflats that glint like oil under the scattered lights. Lanterns along the quay throw halos that smear into the mist, their reflections fractured across the water’s skin.

Masts rise like ghostly sentinels, rigging limp against the quiet. An old fishing trawler, its paint flaked and dulled, rests on the silt with a faint, persistent creak that seems to belong to the town itself. Closer to the pier, rows of clinker-built skiffs tilt on their keels, their undersides exposed, cupped by the harbour floor. Small pools trapped in hollows mirror the fog and the faint, distant glow of street lamps.

Sound is muffled; footsteps are mostly silent on the harbour wall, voices softened into breathy tones. The slap of a rope against timber is a private percussion. Occasionally, a gull calls — a thin, surprised note dissolving into the haze. The air smells of brine and cold, with the faint sweetness of seaweed left drying on the stones.

In the deeper pockets of night, the town feels paused, as if the fog has pressed a gentle hand on the pulse. Shapes of buildings loom, their windows occasional pinpricks of warm light that do not fully reveal the lives within. The harbour’s edges are softened; boundaries between water, land, and sky blur until the whole scene reads like a monochrome study in reflection and absence.

Printed on NST Bright White matt Paper. Without watermark.

Not Framed, Print only. No refunds unless damaged in post then please get in touch.
